It's sad, to me at least, to see a company who has some good products and "had" some amazing test mixes, fall apart because of their obsession with perfection and poor business management. Bad combo. You're either a research company who has to rely grants to do research, or you're a business who's main goal is to make a product of sufficient quality to meet the demand. Such a shame.

It's a pity to see them having difficulties. Their products were genuinely superior across the board at one point, and having taken some time out from experimenting, I am only now starting to catch up with what I have missed. I'm not familar with the entire history of what went on, but perhaps one should give them the benefit of the doubt. "There, but for the Grace of God, go I" is how one's grandparents might have put things. I suppose if expectations have been raised very high, there is much more room for disappointment.

I personally have noticed all kinds of craziness popping up in many different domains since 2007. In bear markets/tough economic times, bad things happen - including mistakes, sloppy thinking, anger, irritability and polarization. In boom times, a loose, just-in-time and flexible approach works wonders. In times like these more structure and discipline is called for. But figuring out what needs to be changed can be tough and leave people scrambling to catch up.

It's just a shame there has been a shift in emphasis in the forum since the glory days. For all sorts of reasons, there isn't at the moment the same kind of high-quality dialogue that the forum stood out for in its early days. Once that has been lost, it is hard to restore...
