Video Talk on the biology of "supernormal stimuli"
03-10-2023 4:23 AM

I would like to raise the attention to this great scientific lecture on supernormal stimuli. I trolled Fevers journal with this information, but think that this is also of interest for the research forum.

Deirdre Barrett, Ph.D. - "Supernormal Stimuli" - TAM 2012 - YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3ObUIf9pcs

How is this relevant for the PT forum?
The pheromone signatures we use are most likely exactly that, an amplified signal that triggers so called "fixed action patterns", and sometimes even better than the original signals.

She describes, starting with birds and fish and later coming to humans (she mentioned the Playboy magazine even), how exaggerated signals can be used to modulate animal behavior and exploit the biology.

She don't talk about pheromones, but for the understanding of what happens downstream of the mones hitting the VNO, this talk is valuable.

Don't blame gravity for your stumbling - learn to walk!

This is INCREDIBLY fascinating. Thanks for sharing, man.

Literally hacking behaviour by understanding stimulus and response.

Extremely valuable.

Ultimately what we're all striving for is the ability to master getting the responses we desire from the world... By using the right stimuli.

Understanding pheromones and their effects is a big part of this.

Understanding social dynamics (and human mating) is basically the core of it.
