To stay young requires unceasing cultivation of the ability to unlearn old falsehoods.

He predicts that we will be able to halt then reverse ageing. I don't think you'll lose what you've learned. In fact he suggests you'll be able to download your memories and and personallity. Then if you get conked in the head and forget everything, they'll be able to "reboot" your brain and restore everything.

Well, he'll have to fix the problem of oxidative damage that happens internally. As we age our mitochondia (where all of our oxygen metabolism happens) become more and more damaged as time goes on. As we continue to lose those little energy factories from oxygen damage as time goes on, our energy level decreases. That is why you can't do the things you could do as a kid.
And the free radicals produced by oxygen metabolism are very hard to halt completely, and that destroys DNA and other stuff as well as demolishing the mitochondria.
So, I'll begin to believe in the possibility of immortality when they fix the oxygen problem.
Diane

There was some mention on gene repair and things on that level. But this is a field I only have a passing knowledge of. Now colonizing those planets around Andromeda...

Speaking of which, here is just the beginning as of today.
And even more!
Diane, I know you know far more about this stuff than me, but these look like beginnings of techniques for handling the concerns you mentioned, besides, I want to colonize the planets of Andromeda.

Yeah, but I look forward to your informed input.
