Pheromone effects and pregnancy - Effects on fetus development
05-15-2015 5:10 PM

Hello all

Does anybody know of any negative effects of synthetic mones on pregnant women and their developing fetus ?

Wiserd, Dexter and all the erudite moners please chime in.

Many thanks.
M.

I never thought of this, but I can not imagine it is any different than being exposed to the same hormones that are secreted from the body.

We know for instance that exposure to Testosterone gel is contraindicated during pregnancy or in women who may become pregnant. It is teratogenic and may cause fetal harm. Now, I don't know how big of a jump would be to assume that any Testosterone metabolite that have an androgenic effect (androsterone, androstenone, etc..) can have the same harming effect..
- for instance androsterone has androgen potency that is approximately 1/7 that of testosterone, and it can be converted to DHT. I don't know how this conversion happens, I don't know if it is significative and if it's only measurable on the wearer or also on people inhaling the androsterone. If the latter is true, then could
it have an effect on the fetus? I learned from wiserd that Finaseride can be absorbed through the skin and provoke birth defects on male fetuses, due to the drug effect in decreasing circulating DHT levels which is important for the development of male characteristics. Could then an increase in DHT be
harmful in the same way for female fetuses?

I also found the following
"DHEA is possibly unsafe for individuals experiencing the following conditions: pregnancy and breast-feeding,"

While well researched, DHEA effects are still unknown in the long term but it seems that the above sentence refers to DHEA supplementation. The same warning can be found for Androstenetrione
Again, how different would it be when inhaling as a pheromone?

There is also oxytocin which can trigger contractions and labour in pregnant women.

Methoxyestratetraenone it is apparently a horse hormone that is highly estrogenic and is absorbable through the skin, so a fetus would really be messed with.

Another danger can come from commercial perfumes. Who says mones says cover scent and commercial perfumes and colognes may use phthalates, bisphenol, benzenes, and parabens. Phthalates are what makes the commercial perfumes so strong and long lasting. Phthalates can be absorbed through the skin and cause many birth defects. Some Pthalates have been banned for use in childrens toys but used heavily in perfumes and many scented products.

questions, questions..
M.

There are apparently 2 types of pheromones in mammals: signaling and priming pheromones.
- Signaling pheromones cause a more or less immediate change in behavior, probably by acting on genes in the cells that produce neurotransmitters. For example Androstenone.
- Priming pheromones trigger GnHR (Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone) production which in turn regulates the level of different hormones, which then affect development, metabolism, and various behaviors including mating and reproductive behavior.

"(...) Some of these hormones, for example, regulate the onset of puberty or sexual maturation, the development of secondary sex characteristics like breasts and facial and body hair. Ultimately priming pheromones trigger production of hormones that control sex drive, regulate the menstrual cycle, and control egg and sperm production"

This last type of mones and its impacts worries me because it seems that pheromones are tied into our sexual development. There is indirect evidence that olfactory input causes variation in the speed or strenght of the GnRH pulse. As I understand it, it would be possible to affect and changes nature's course.

"(...) A female fetus may be exposed to high levels of Testosterone because of the mother has taken a synthetic hormone known as DES to reduce the risk of miscarriage. Or the mother or the fetus may have overactive adrenal glands that pump out extra testosterone. This can masculinize a female fetus by influencing the way the HPG axis works. The sexual anatomy may then shift toward the male pattern.
At birth, male babies get a surge of GNRH that results in a LH surge. This is apparently triggered by exposure to the mother's pheromones. This LH surge keeps the testes pumping out a high level of testosterone which further masculinizes the brain by destroying or altering connections between nerve cells and creating male circuits."

Whatever can influence the speed and strenght of the GnRH pulse in the long run may well affect our sexual development and/or behaviour.

Also it really seems that pheromones could prevent or end pregnancy in rodents. How about in humans?
"When a pregnant mouse is exposed to a strange male's urine, that odor blocks production of a releasing hormone in the hypothalamus which in turn lowers the level of her pituitary hormones. Result? The pregnancy ends in miscarriage."
The searchers initially claimed that this effect could not occur in humans, but a later study found a "two-fold increase in the incidence of spontaneous abortions among pregnant women exposed to high levels of aromatic cosmetic chemicals" - does that include pheromones?

I'd say play safe

From https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Relationships/Hormones (Thanks Dsouza)

"Abnormal Fetal Testosterone
XX (female) foeti exposed to testosterone develop masculinized features, e.g., a clitoris as large as a small penis, and (sometimes) masculine thinking patterns and behaviors. Conversely, XY (male) foeti not exposed to testosterone become feminized.[62]

Switching the hormones of baby animals-rats, ferrets, pigs, finches, and monkeys[63] - makes males grow up to behave as females, and vice versa.[64] Females attempt to mount females. Males assume the lordosis female sexual posture to get males to mount them.[65] Given a choice of male or female sexual partners, the hormonally manipulated animals choose their own sex.[66]

Stressing pregnant rats (e.g., forcing them to remain immobile in bright light, which terrifies normally nocturnal animals) causes them to produce homosexual or bisexual male offspring.[67]

Some genetic disorders and hormone imbalances expose human XX (female) foeti to testosterone or estrogen, or prevent testosterone exposure of XY (male) foeti. These XY (male) adults look and act like women (sometimes including sexual attraction to men). The XX (female) girls prefer to play with trucks instead of dolls.[68] The adult women have masculine features, behavior, and sexual attraction to women.[69]

Gender identity, sexual biology, and cognitive skills appear to develop at different stages of pregnancy. Abnormal fetal hormones at certain points in pregnancy can produce one gender abnormality, while the individual otherwise develops normally. E.g., a man could think of himself as masculine, wear men's clothing, etc., but feel sexual attraction to other men.[70]"

Are you concerned about how what you are wearing could affect a pregnant woman, or what she is wearing herself?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm interested in this subject, too, as one of my friend's GF is 4 months pregnant.

Does anyone know if pheromones are generally safe to wear around pregnant women (particularly GOA or straight Androstadienone )?

Of course, there is data lacking on this. Someone also brought this subject up in another thread, however they were worried in triggering precocious puberty in their son.

To be on the safe side, perhaps it would be wise to avoid exposing kids or pregnant women to excessive amounts of said substances....especially OXYTOCIN which is contained in some formulas e.g., Hax mones, perhaps Apex imprint, some of the True pheromones etc. Oxytocin can trigger labor pains...it is used for that purpose for overdue deliveries.

THAT BEING SAID, we must remember that we all basically exude a pheromone signature to which others are exposed to when they come into contact with us and likewise, when we come in contact with them. So, pregnant women are frequently snorting up wafts of Androstenone, Androstadienone , estataetrenol, DHEA, -enols etc...Many of these occur naturally and they don't normally cause any deleterious effects.

Just rational thinking.
