A question arose in me due to a recent post of dsouza on the state and the future of the pheromone industry.
What is the estimate you have of:

A: People know what pheromones are?

B: People believe that pheromones are in one way or the other influence human feelings, thoughts and behaviors?

C: People believe that there are legit products out in the world that one could use to steer the feelings, thoughts and behaviors of other people?

D: People that actively use those products?

If possible a male vs. female percentage and a description of the demographics would be also interesting.

Here my guesses / estimates:

My daily experienced demographic group (Germany, 95% STEM field university degree, mainly Gen X, some millenials, middle to upper middle class, sample size estimated to 500 to 1000 people that I deal with in a year);

A: 95%
B: 30%
C: 0.1%
D: 0.002% (1 in 500)

For the general population (again Germany):
A: 75%
B: 15%
C: 0.01%
D: 0.0002% (1 in 5000)

For Germany with 85 million inhabitants the 1/5000 regular pheromone user estimate would be still a whopping 42,000 people. With Paulius as pretty much the single source in Europe that would be quite a market. I don't really believe that he has 42,000 regular costumers in Germany or 200,000 in the EU, so I most likely even overestimate this. At the end you need to be able to purchase the quite expensive products.

The female to male ratio in the knowing/believing questions is imho close to 1:1, in the users easily 1:100 or less.

If my estimations are right, one would not meet another pheromonaute more often than once every half year maximum. Nor would the general public generate a resistance or insensitivity against the mones. That in turn would mean they keep their effect for us.

I would say:

A: around 25% know what they are
B: around 0,1% think that natural mones have an effect, and like 0,05% would believe those ones that were using work
C: 0,05%
D:0,001% maybe

For D I would guess more like 1 in 30,000 general population are users

Good. If they became common, everyone would have to buy just to stay even and nobody would be ahead.

For all in here it is better if the pheromone business stays small and off mainstream . For the user in order to have that benefit, but even for the vendors. If it would become a mainstream market, the larger cosmetics and fragrance maker would easily outmarket the small businesses of today.
