Diatomaceous Earth.....

I came across something that "looks" very promising but wanted to run it by our amazing BS detectors here. Says it's 89% pure silica....and is supposed to have many, many health benefits. It's an organic bug killer and pest control, however there is Food Grade DE that apparently humans take. One tablespoon every day. Anyone know anything about it??

I've taken it and I've also used it as a bug killer.

It's extremely gritty in your mouth but doesn't have any taste to speak of.

It is a bug killer that bugs do not become immune to because of how it kills. When an insect crawls over the DE, it lacerates the exoskeleton and causes the bug to dessicate.

I don't remember feeling any different after taking it and I never bought it again after that one time.

It is completely 100% safe, that much I'm sure of.

I see good things online but you'd go broke buying everything that was on doctor OZ.
DE is pretty cheap though so worst case it's inert.

My advice is only based on mistakes I've made.

Here's the MSDS, which are always a little paranoid. https://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9923703

It works as a bug killer. It's bad if it's inhaled.

I've never tried silica myself. Apparently your body does actually use a little bit as a nutrient, contrary to my preconceptions. I figured it'd just be inert. But you can actually overdose on silica.

I'm still very skeptical, but it's not an expensive experiment.

Silica also comes in the form of gel which you drink, mixed with water or not. I took it for several weeks to help with my IBS-d (which basically is oversensitivity of the colon) but it didn't help me. Neither did Aloe juice though.

Unless you have a specific reason or need for supplementary silica, you should be able to get the tiny amount your body needs from food. Halo is correct. Cucumber skin has silica.
