RE: Sunlight does NOT cause Skin Cancer! HUH?

What Causes Skin Cancer?
Sunburn and Sunlight
Very simply, sunburn and UV light can damage your skin, and this
damage can lead to skin cancer. There are of course other determining
factors, including your heredity and the environment you live in.
However, both the total amount of sun received over the years, and
overexposure resulting in sunburn can cause skin cancer. Most people
receive 80% of their lifetime exposure to the sun by 18 years of age.
The message to parents from this is to protect your children.
Tanning is your skin's response to UV light. It is a protective
reaction to prevent further injury to your skin from the sun. However,
it does not prevent skin cancer.
Remember, skin cancer is very slow to develop. The sunburn you receive
this week may take 20 years or more to become skin cancer.
Heredity
If there is a history of skin cancer in your family, you are probably
at a higher risk. People with fair skin, with a northern European
heritage appear to be most susceptible.
What is Skin Cancer?
(From the National Cancer Institute PDQ Statement)
Skin cancer is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found
in the outer layers of your skin. Your skin protects your body against
heat, light, infection, and injury. It also stores water, fat, and
vitamin D.
The skin has two main layers and

Very interesting how vitamin D3 keeps coming up in so many different contexts, even as a pheromone-like substance!

Sun exposure does not cause cancer. In fact, lack of Vitamin D and the associated minerals/vitamins which helps you use it has strong links to cancer. It hasn't been proven yet, because no-one can patent VitD and make money off it, so nobody's spent the money to do the trials... You should not get burned, but a tan IS healthy. Here in Australia, we're all being told to "slip, slop, slap" to protect against the sun. And the result? Increasing rates of skin cancer.
1. I'm a huge fan of Ewald and also suspect that more cancers are the result of pathogens, one way or another, than we expect.
2. I have some issues with the Vit D "deficiency" studies. First off, it's not technically a vitamin since your body can produce it, but I'll leave the "vitamin" terminology since that's what people are familiar with. Yes, some people don't get enough sunlight and that causes a problem. Yes, we need sunlight. But a lot of the studies don't seem to account for the possibility of overconversion of 25 vit D ( calcidiol) which is what's usually tested into 1,25 vit D (calcitriol). If a person is in a state of chronic inflammation then they'll have lower 25-D. This looks like deficiency. But it's actually just a marker for chronic inflammation. How many vit. D studies have you seen that control for inflammation or conversion of vit. D to calcitriol? High CRP levels, which are used to measure chronic inflammation, are known to correlate with a risk for cardiovascular disease, moreso than, say, cholesterol levels. (And since statins prevent the production of cholesterol which is what vit. D is made from, statins should reduce vit. D production in your body.)
One way you can tell that overconversion of vit-D is a problem for some people is to note that people say "heart attacks/arterial calcification are caused by low 25-D." No, they're not. Activating the vit-d receptor in the gut puts calcium into the bloodstream (but not the bones.) This leads to arterial calcification, especially in the absence of sufficient Vit K. (K2, menaquinone, seems to be far more helpful than K1.)
... K2 is great stuff, by the way. Cleans out the arteries. Seems to help a ton with prostate cancer... not sure what effect it has on androgen levels, but otherwise, remarkable stuff!
