I'm trying to figure out what's the difference between an olfactory receptor in the skin and just another g-protein coupled receptor in the skin that happens to interact with a molecule (as many do.)

Can anyone explain whether this is really groundbreaking? It's seemed obvious for a while that olfactory receptors were found elsewhere in the body.
