How have the marketers of "pheromone" products convinced people that oxytocin use will affect others who are exposed to it through the person who wears the spray?

I have been telling people for years its not a pheromone over at PT but they dont listen. Every hormone doesnt act as a pheromone.

Its a drug and I dont think it should be messed with. You have some people who have used Liquid Trust and love it. I have it, Its ok but I would never get it again. I feel there are other pheromones in it and this is where they are getting the reaction from. It feels like nols to me.

Pheromones effect hormones that affect behavior via a detailed pathway common to all mammals. Oxytocin (and other hormones) are regulated by the pathway that is directly effected by pheromones. Oxytocin (and other hormones) generally support prosocial interactions among conspecifics; they do not directly affect prosocial behaviors like pheromones do.

I recently read that oxytocin supports the development of parenting in mammals primarily through its impact on parent-infant proximity and touch behaviors. This is like placing the cart before the horse. The parent-infant proximity is what allows pheromones to condition hormone release and behaviors associated with touching (tactile stimulation). Oxytocin can do nothing to affect behavior unless levels change with concurrent exposure to pheromones.

There is no indication that oxytocin has any pheromonal affect. I would need to check the article for the amount of oxytocin that is administered via the nasal spray, and then attempt to compare it to what the marketers are saying is delivered to the nose of someone else when their product is used. However, there's little reason for me to do this comparison, since no data from either non-human animal, or human studies suggests that oxytocin is a pheromone.
