Yeah but I'd bet that there are a number of members here who don't know what IRC is, and there aren't any IRC clients that integrate with mybb, so a separate registration and login would be required.

Oh, that's too bad. I was hoping it could be like our current shoutbox where it is integrated cleanly into the site, but functions like IRC.

I mentioned phpBB in another thread.. It can use a shout cast type chat and does integrate with IRC.

The shoutbox is kinda cute. Leave as is.

Looks like that one opens a separate window when clicking on an icon, instead of a clean integration.

And, it would require me to install IRC software on my server, which is something that I really don't want to do.

The shoutbox is really only intended to be a fast and easy way to post quick notes anyway, and not really a full featured chat room.
