Thumbs Down Copulins are fake?
02-24-2012 11:22 PM

Hi everyone,
I am a chemical student interested in pheromones, and I see lots of companies are selling products with copulins.

But my question is what the heck are they?

What's the chemical formula for copulins?
Since the word "copulins" is plural it indicates that it is a group of related compounds with a common structure like steroids, fatty acids, peptides ...
So, what is its systematic name for these organic compounds as defined by IUPAC?

For example EXOTIQUE for women conatins
Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Alcohol, Vitamin-E Acetate, human copulins, alpha-androstenol, epiandrosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sodium sulfate, androstanone, dehydroisoandrosterone, androstadienone.

All chemicals are listed by their exact names, except the mysterious "human copulins".

Seriously?

Please enlighten me because I would like to believe in pheromones but this kind of marketing turns me off. I am calling on the companies to explain this pseudoscience.

Copulins are a mixture of fatty acids in certain ratios. I think i've even seen a "recipe" for copulins somewhere around. Different companies will make different copulin-mixes. As of yet i've tried Essence of Woman copulins and True copulins. Both gave me very strong effects. Though Essence of Woman copulins were a little more effective on me, but much more stinky than True cops.

Welcome Janiece!

Cops are a synthetic version of the vaginal secretions of young, fertile women. I think Stone Labs was the first to release it's formula called Essence of Woman. I have seen the chemicals listed somewhere but I forget where. It may be on the Stone Labs website or on Diane's Paradise 7 forum. I think you can find the formula if you really search. Smile

Some women report greater attraction and flirtation from men when they wear synthetic cops. Men can wear a much lower dose of cops for the "social proof" of smelling like they just had sex with a woman. Theory has it that this will make the man more attractive to other women if those other women think he has just had sex, which in turn will increase the chances of him ACTUALLY having sex. In short, women want what other women have. I think another use for cops involves weight lifters sniffing concentrated cops for a testosterone spike to help with recovery after weight training. I have no experience with this latter application.

As to weather it is pseudoscience or not I think that is a difficult question. There would have to be a double-blind study published in a peer-reviewed journal for the cops effect to be considered hard science. An unlikely prospect! Too many feminists have veto authority over academic studies. Is an effect pseudoscience if it works for many people but it has not been studied by researchers or or had it's effects published in some obscure peer review journal?

I hope you will take the time to post an introduction and let us know more about yourself: your age, how you found us, what is your interest in pheromones--what do you hope to accomplish with pheromones. If you are purely interested in research, I think you will fit in here. But if you just want something to spray on to act as a social lubricant, you will fit in here as well.

Welcome to the wonderful world of pheromones! We are delighted you found us! Smile

I know that Dr.Stone uses Astrid Jutte's recipe for synthetic copulins.
Here's an excerpt from a good article I found citing Astrid Jutte's research:
Quote:Recent research has confirmed my observation. Men do respond physiologically to women when they ovulate. Astrid Jutte at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Urban Ethology in Vienna confirmed the physiological changes with the following experiment. "Three groups of men were asked to inhale one of three synthetically produced human copulins-fatty acids found in vaginal secretions in women at various times during the menstrual cycle. One of the copulins mimicked ovulation, one menstruation and the third another point in the cycle. The fourth group of men inhaled only water vapor. Jutte found that testosterone levels in the saliva of those men exposed to the scent of ovulation increased by half, while levels in those sniffing only water dropped by half" (6). And of course, these physiological changes often influence men's behavior.
