Any reason to think caffeine could act as a pheromone?

C8H10N4O2

194.19 g/mol

IUPAC name: 1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6(3H,7H)-dione
3,7-dihydro-1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione

$10 for 100g at USP grade: http://www.amazon.com/Caffeine-Anhydrous...pd_sim_k_5

From the wikipedia page: A study with ex vivo hair follicles indicates that caffeine can reduce hair growth suppression caused by testosterone. Caffeine therefore has the potential as a therapeutic agent in androgenic alopecia.

I don't see why not. If it is able to bind to neurotransmitter receptor sites when present in the blood stream, it may be able to do the same in the olfactory system.

But here comes a flamewar....

Pheromone Wiki - Reference to pheromone products & molecules
Pheromone Codex - Use the code, not the name
∴ ∴ A2=enone ⋅ A3=anol ⋅ A4=bnol ⋅ A5=rone
∴ ∴ A6=epi-rone ⋅ A7=DHEA ⋅ A8=DHEAS ⋅ A9=7-keto
∴ ∴ A10=anone ⋅ A11=beta-anol ⋅ B1=neno ⋅ E1=EST
∴ ∴ E2=MEO-nol ⋅ E4=MEO-EST

Hmm, so maybe if I airate my apartment with caffiene in an oil base I'd have a consant caffiene fix. No more brewing, no more having to run to the bathroom all day, just an all day caffiene fix! I like. Just wonder what it would do for trying to get to sleep. Eek

This one's for the girls. bighug

Interesting....it is easily absorbed through the skin, I guess it could work.

I've actually been using a product that's supposed to reduce bags under your eyes, where one of the main ingredients is caffeine. No idea how much is in there, but I was surprised to find that I didn't feel any stimulant effect from it.

Not to get too far afield from the phero question, but coffee enemas also do not allow for caffeine absorption the way drinking it does. I don't think spraying a few micrograms onto the skin would keep you awake at night.

I'd try caffeine as a -mone if I could find it in a local store. I really don't want to mail order it.

Do they sell it in health food stores or pharmacies?

You wouldn't feel it in an eye cream, you may feel it in an all over body firming cream. I think a coffee enema wouldn't have much effect, because it's not staying in your system. From experience coffee baths or coffee scrubs can be stimulating, but I'm assuming that's from the prolonged contact with your skin Wink

Get some no-doze from your local pharmacy or similar stay-awake product. That has a good caffeine content. That seems like the easiest way though there are other options if that doesn't meet your standards.

Hmm. . . I have 200mg anhydrous caffene capsules from Vitacost, I could mix one up and give this a shot. Still need to buy a real fixative, so I would be using olive oil in the final preparation (everclear for the concentrate and dilution).

Side note:
Which is superior? FCO or DPG. I'll be buying one or the other for my DIY's and to mix with my alpha dream singles. I bet you guys might have an inkling Smile
